Oil and gas activities are having a bit of a surge in our area. The following details some more recent activity in East Texas. Feel free to comment on any knowledge of increased activity

East Texas drilling permits in late September clustered along the Louisiana line, with Shelby County taking the largest share of new Haynesville filings as operators kept adding horizontal gas wells in Railroad Commission District 6.

For the week of September 28 through October 4, trackers logged six Haynesville-area permits, all in District 6 and all in three counties.

Shelby County accounted for four. Rockcliff Energy Operating III permitted Dome Fed GU A, B, and C on September 30 in the Carthage (Haynesville Shale) field, each a horizontal gas well listed at about 16,000 feet. Silver Hill Energy Operating added Bullitt C on September 29 in the same field, at 12,500 feet.

Earlier in the month, Silver Hill’s Bullitt wells were sited about 0.8 miles northeast of Choyce.

Harrison County drew one permit in that weekly count: Rose City Resources’ Patton well in the Whelan (Pettit) field, an 8,000-foot horizontal oil well filed September 30. Harrison was busier than that single line suggests. Comstock Oil & Gas filed several horizontal Haynesville permits in September, including Blocker SUS C 3H, located about 8.3 miles southeast of Marshall in the M.S. Ussury survey.

Rusk County’s filing was Buckhorn Operating’s Bullwinkle, a horizontal gas well in the Brachfield S.E. (Cotton Valley) field at 10,500 feet, also dated September 30. A Nacogdoches County permit from the prior week dropped out of the latest tally.

Mid-September Railroad Commission reports fill in the map. Between September 13 and 19, permits included XTO Energy’s Crimson Tide-Cardinals 1B in Shelby County, Carthage (Haynesville Shale); three R Lacy Services Terlingua A wells in Panola County, about 3.5 miles east of Tatum; and RFE Operating’s Berkshire West 1H in Rusk County, Oak Hill (Cotton Valley), about 2.5 miles southeast of Overton.

The September 6–12 window added Aethon Energy’s Mylo Gas Unit about 2 miles southwest of Martinsville in Nacogdoches County. Outside the shale fairway, Stroud Petroleum permitted a Lake Mary (Woodbine) well about 5.1 miles northeast of Elkhart in Anderson County.

Completions reported for mid-September were concentrated in Panola and Harrison.

TGNR Panola turned wells to sales about 10 miles southeast of DeBerry. Silver Hill completed a Double Ranch well about 2.3 miles northeast of Jonesville. TGNR East Texas reported a completion about 5 miles west of Waskom. Reported test rates on several of those Haynesville wells were in the high 30,000s to low 40,000s Mcf over 42 hours.

The late-September permits sit on top of a longer East Texas Haynesville run. An August rig tally put San Augustine County near 10 rigs, Panola near 8, and Harrison and Nacogdoches near 5 each, with Rusk and Shelby trailing. Year-to-date permit leaders in the play include Apex Natural Gas, TGNR Panola, Rockcliff, TG Natural Resources, and Silver Hill. For the first week of October, the new paper was almost entirely Shelby, Harrison, and Rusk
