The Neches Belle was a riverboat that once graced the waters of the Sabine, from the Gulf at Orange, Texas up towards Logansport, Louisiana and beyond. The ship was a sidewheel, wooden hull packet, built to handle 500 bales of cotton. A relatively small boat. It was built in 1889, in Beaumont, Texas a a total cost, excluding machinery, of $3.000. The ship had electric lighting by 1893. The ship was destroyed in 1897 at Logansport, tied up and left when the law impounded her for debt. When the river's water receded, she turned over. She traveled the waters of the Sabine and the Neches River. The owner of the Neches Belle, when new was Capts. Bill Loving and Pearl Bunn. Later Capt. Sam Allardyce and Capt. John Liles and later, John G. White. Toward her end, maybe Capt. Will Loving or Loring.
