While capturing footage today in Logansport, Louisiana, in areas around the Sabine River, we encountered the gentleman who operates the water plant at Logansport and a gentleman with the DeSoto Water District (forgive me for not having gotten names… I know I should have!).
Anyway, the Logansport guy (who I am now being told is REX CLARK :) asked us to get a photo or two from the air of the intake structure for the water plant. He had just walked down the road a bit trying to get eyes on the structure, but due to flooding he was not able to get as close of a look as he wanted. For people in and around Logansport, it seems you have some good men working super hard to make sure your water supply is uninterrupted. I had heard a few times today from area residents around the riverfront that the town’s water supply was in danger of being cut off because of flooding on the Sabine River. After talking to these guys, for whatever it is worth, I think the water supply is in good hands and commend the Town of Logansport and DeSoto Waterworks. The two are coordinating with each other and with USGS (on pertinent data from the river) … and the intake structure will be turned off as soon as it needs to be, with the DeSoto Water District ready to pick up the slack for Logansport (the water source will be switched to the district and that is where the supply will come from for Logansport until the Sabine River recesses to a level once again at which the intake structure can be put back into action and Logansport can be self sufficient again).
This type of preparedness and coordination among public entities to the benefit of the public is really nice to see … Well, I know it is expected and I understand that, BUT I also understand that what we expect we don’t always get with public officials and agencies… Here, I witnessed expectations being met. Nice!
