We shot this aerial footage from Hwy. 8 in West Vernon Parish… It was close to the Sabine River but not as close as I thought… The river is terribly flooded, so much so that it must be a good mile or so from where the road was closed to the actual River. This is awful devastation in a really close knit area… Some call it Burr Ferry, some call it Evans… It is awful what they are enduring. We would have gotten more footage and were trying to get to the Texas side, but our drone literally got a mind of its own and flew away from us, used up all its battery power and then finally “returned home” after us begging it to. Just when we got it back and were about to take it back up, we spotted a military rescue copter in the air and decided we better leave the skies to those who had far more urgent work to be performed. I was told by some people in the area that there may be residents on the Texas side of the river who were stranded in their homes, having been unable to get out before the river rose.
