Written on back of photograph: “WPA workmen are constructing a modern school plant at Fields to accommodate children from the communities of Fields and Hyatt, Louisiana. The main building will be 302 by 140 feet in size containing 12 class rooms, chemical laboratory, study hall, library and auditorium-gymnasium. Anticipating an oil boom in a nearby field, which would result in increased population, and the need for larger school facilities, the residents of Fields and Hyatt, two isolated communities in western Louisiana, are getting ready for the future. They have induced the Beauregard Parish school board to sponsor this modern school plant now under construction by WPA. The main building, shown here, will be 302 x 140 feet, one story brick with hollow tile backing and stucco finish. It will contain 12 classrooms, an auditorium and gym. The school plant also will include homes for the principal, janitor, teachers; home economics cottage, manual training building, sewer system, water and light plant. It replaces the obsolete, dilapidated school building now in use.”
