Was very intrigued to find this, after reading the information about the two murderers who were hanged after being convicted in the kidnapping and murder of J. J. Brevelle. It was the hangings of these two men that gave the DeRidder Jail the name “hanging jail”. The murder was in 1923. The title of the photo in McNeese State University is simply “The Death Car.” Caption: “Wreck of car which J.J. Brevelle was driving at the time he was killed, and in which his body was taken from DeRidder to Pickering where it was dumped in a mill pond, and which afterwards was abandoned and set on fire in a covered spot near the Sabine river ferry.”
