We received a message asking if we could find details on a murder and subsequent trial that gripped East Texas and the rest of the country in 1923. I found plenty of details and the news print coverage of the trial was sensationalism at its boldest… The trial was in Hemphill, Texas, where a millionaire lumberman was killed and his wife, dubbed the “Lumber Queen” by media, was on trial for his murder. Newspapers all over the U.S. treated this trial as front page news. This clip is from The Salisbury Evening Post in North Carolina. Please feel free to comment if you are interested in reading more coverage about this and I will gladly post more as there is plenty!
