A hard day's work! In 1942, when this photo was taken, peeling pine poles had to be a tough job by hand in the woods. Tom Lopez and Nolen Farmer, both of Noble, (Farmer later relocated to Florien) are shown performing the chore in the woods of the "Round Lakes' area west of Converse. At this time, peeling poles for telephone poles earned one three cents a foot. A good peeler could earn 5 to 6 dollars a day.
