1940, Third Army Maneuvers. Cavalry in action. These maneuvers took place in part in Sabine Parish. The photo, from the Louisiana Digital Library, interested me particularly because of the controversy now surrounding the Army's wishes to eliminate a community of wild horses around Fort Polk that likely descended from cavalry horses such as these in the photo. The horses helped us... now perhaps, we should help them.... in my own humble opinion.
