Pendleton Gaines Memorial Bridge over the Sabine River was 1462 feet long. Before, crossing the river was accomplished by taking the Pendleton Ferry. In 1966, construction began on an elevated 2.8 mile $3.5 million Pendleton Bridge. The prior bridge was never torn down, just abandoned, and is still under the waters of Toledo Bend Lake
