Be careful! With yourselves, kids, and pets! A Heat Advisory is now in effect until 7 pm Monday for all of North Louisiana. The Heat Advisory has been expanded to include Red River, Morris, Gregg, Rusk, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Angelina, San Augustine, and Sabine Counties in East Texas.
Timing and Overview:
A large upper ridge of high pressure will remain in place across the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley through at least midweek, resulting in temperatures nearing or exceeding 100 degrees over much of the region. When combined with the humidity, heat indices Monday afternoon will range from 105 to 110 degrees over the Advisory area.
These very hot and humid conditions will persist Tuesday through much of next week. Thus, the Heat Advisory may be extended in time and possibly area.
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on the elderly. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing if you must be outdoors during peak times.
