Through the years: Crossing the Sabine River between Bon Weir, Texas and Merryville, Louisiana

Bridge today, as part of US Hwy. 190 system.  Not sure when the bridge was constructed... Looked a good bit online but did not find a date pinpointed.  Feel free to comment if you know more about this bridge.  NOTE:  We took this photo from the air this past December... The river was at flood stage at this time... So it may appear quite high in these photos because it is quite high.

  1. My grandfather, James Riley of Woodville was the engineer over this bridge. It was built in 1976 in a joint effort of the Texas and Louisiana Highway Departments. At the same time that this bridge was built the State of Louisiana moved and built 190 up higher because of frequent flooding between the river and Merryville. If you look closely to the right after going around the curve and cross the first bridge you can see remnants of the old road near the railroad tracks.
